Senteret skal være et lavterskeltilbud der målet er å gi råd, støtte, veiledning og hjelp til brukere basert på prinsippet om hjelp til selvhjelp. Dette kan skje gjennom enesamtaler og ulike former for aktiviteter og selvhjelpsgrupper. De ansatte skal bidra til å kartlegge hvilke tilbud på senteret og i det offentlige hjelpeapparat den enkelte bruker har behov for. Senteret skal drive forebyggende arbeid, informasjon og rettledning til andre instanser.
